Our first video- some footage of our horses in development

Some footage of our early horses, we will continue to work on them throughout the development process to make them great!

Trying to do some dressage… Framerate was bit low for piaffe 🙂 Next video will be higher quality, so you can see the detail that is hard to see here.

  1. So what will it look like when we have 1000 horses on a ranch? Or will there be a limit?

Good question- because you can possibly own that many! We will probably set a maximum of something like 20 viewable in the “stable” (1000 horses especially with different colors/models would crash the game). You can swap out with your pasture horses at any time- where they will be stashed in list form and not aging.

  2. This is absolutely AMAZING!! I seriously have been waiting for these good of graphics and reality. This is just so stunning. Three questions: will there be a discipline in show jumping and/or cross country? When do you presume the game to finish? And have you started the process of creating the game? This is an amazing concept, this will definitely please many people in the equestrian world, as I have been waiting for a realistic horse game, example: a horse that actually picks up the correct lead and has lead changes XD But this is just to amazing!! I am more excited for this then I was for the Sims 3 Pets XD Keep up the good work, I definitely will be waiting for the arrival of this game 🙂

Yes- there will be show jumping and cross country, perhaps simulated at launch time (doesn’t mean you can’t run horses over jumps yourself). We have started the process of creating the game, our resources are limited right now- and we hope that our Kickstarter campaign that launches in just over a week will help us make this game everything we and you want it to be. Sims 3 Pets was fun- but lets make those horses more interesting with lots of stats that carry down from generation to generation! And I wish I could have more horses in Sims 3!

  3. Wow! The horses look very realistic, except for the neck. I couldn’t help but notice it’s a tiny bit angular at the top. Otherwise, very pretty!

  4. Will training be at all like VHR? Or will it run in realtime?

Right now the only thing we have decided is that you can stash horses in a pasture to keep them from aging. We will need to open up discussion with everyone soon about doing turns and controlling time for stabled horses, or having it run in real time.

  5. This looks amazing 😀 Will it be available on phones and iPods too or just tablets? And will we actually be able to play the game when you have the kick starter campaign? Sorry I’ve never been involved in a Kickstarter campaign, but probably will with this one! x

Not initially for phones- they might not run it too well so we wouldn’t recommend it- technically you could probably try it. We may build a special App down the line for phones- but might not be able to handle the 3D world part. The game won’t be ready to play for several more months- but if you get involved with kickstarter, you will get early access to help the development process. Our campaign will probably start later next week at earliest- I’ll let you know then! Thanks.

  6. I just love this idea! I have totally been waiting for a game like this. Horses look very amazing too! I would want to have their manes and tails to be like you could put some decorating on them in the game :3 And, when a foal borns, it could have differend mane growing, some horses would have fast growth, some slower. I’ve always wante a horse game which could do that :p sorry if my wishes are too much xDDD I still like the game the way it is right now, even when i havent played it yet. CANT WAIT!

I’ll be meeting with technical artists tomorrow and will discuss what is possible to do with the mane, since there seems to be a lot of support about it, and personally think this would be cool.

  7. This is sooo much more realistic than any other horse game I’ve ever seen! Very nice job with the horses.

  8. Will it be anything like the original vhr2 horse game that was dismantled in late 2009 early
2010? if my memory serves me correctly. I remember very clearly one being around and it looks almost the same exept for textures and scenery…. I loved that game btw. And can’t wait.

Thank you, yes somewhat like that, but much better than the old VHR2, new engine and improved technology & user interface 🙂 Yes- new texture for horse model & we will be working more on the models and animations, but the first horse models are from that- they aged well.

  9. Love it! Will horses Grey out as they age? I have always loved that. And will there be lethal white? Or mutations such as bloody shoulder or bircatcher spots? Fun stuff like that. I have so many more questions but think I will leave it at that for now.

There will most definitely be a bloody shoulder texture- because I had an Arab with one as a kid 😉 Birdcatcher spots too. Not sure about grey-ing, something we can explore, that is interesting!

      • Oh that was the other thing. Will genes even matter? Cause if not you really don’t have to worry about graying.

        • Nefertete

          September 22, 2014 at 6:42 pm

Yes genes for stats, colors, looks, & breed are a very important part of the game. Something to consider for greying, like us rl people 😉

    • Oh! Crossbreeds. Will we have them? And id so will they get random stats and looks from their parents or will it be just Grade such and such with these stats. I have a dream horse and it would be neat to try and make it.

We will take this in to consideration. We will have something result from cross breeding, and stats would be based on parents and parents’ breeds. We are “blending” models for breeds. What I mean is, for example: An AraAppaloosa- we mix stock model + arabian model. Might be interesting to do this per horse for mixed breeding, or for even more variety in horses. I’ll look in to it.

  10. Nef!! Long time no see. I’m extremely anxious about this game. I’ve been loyal to orbis since 2006. Lately life has made it hard for me to play. Medical school and such. My curiosity is mainly about the online play with other people so far what are the ideas regarding it?

Hey there- Thanks! Congrats on Med School- yes that will make someone very very busy! Initially, you will be able to visit other peoples ranches, perhaps ride (or race?) together, have clubs (similar to VHR – horse or player- yet improved), compete against, trade/breed- and we want to build like “marketplace/auction areas” where you can go with your horse to trade or just hang out and check out other horses for stud/sale. If not right off the bat- at sometime we will have all these features and more.

  11. Will there be a chance to see the birth cycles in this game? Other than death of course, but let’s say your mare ends up pregnant. You’ll see her belly grow and then a foal pops out.. that’s small and it grows into a mature horse?

Or will that be too much work to do?

  12. I love it… I can’t wait til the game is up and going I will defiantly be signing up. As long as my computer doesn’t hate me! Looks like its going to be a lot of fun to play.

  13. Will there be different markings for different models and colors? For example; If I have four sorrel quarter horses, will they all have the same exact markings, or will they vary? If they vary this will probably be the coolest game yet!!
